A Scottish philosopher and designer Alexander Bain created and patented the 1st fax machine. The machine read a text written in prominent metal letters and then transmitted it through telegraphic cords.

A special king's order gave an operator of the London water-supplying station Henry Mills the right to "design machines and an artificial method of continuous typing of separate letters as if in hand writing". Mills had an idea of designing a machine with a successive moving of levers, which was a prototype of typewriters.

The typewriter designed by a Dane Hanse Malling was demonstrated at the exhibition of technical wonders in Vienna and its manufacturing started. |

In Russia M.I. Alisov designed a typing apparatus "SKOROPISETS" (FAST WRITER) which was a great success. The designer faced a lot of trouble in manufacturing the machine in Russia so he had to pass the order over to England.
